Six reasons
What sets DEVI apart
Each one is true of every shipped tool, and each links to where you can check it.
Offline by design
Hashing, decrypting and lookups run on the examiner's own computer and never use the network. Evidence never leaves it. See it
Read-only evidence
DEVI Validate and DEVI Decrypt open evidence without changing it, and say so in the record they write. See it
Cited, not asserted
Every DEVI Registry claim names its public source, and every verification record states what was checked, how, and the result. See it
Verifiable on every download
A published SHA-256 for every release file, and an Authenticode signature with a timestamp on every app and installer. See it
Built by working examiners
DEVI comes from casework, where every result has to be explained, repeated and defended in court. See it
American-owned
DEVI is owned by a U.S. company and developed in the United States. See it

Questions to ask any forensic tool
Ask them of a cloud platform, a script, a free utility or a full suite. Here is how DEVI answers.
| Ask | DEVI |
|---|---|
| Does my evidence leave this computer? | No. Hashing, decrypting and lookups never use the network. The only request a tool makes is an optional, signed update check. |
| Is the evidence changed when it is opened? | No. DEVI Validate and DEVI Decrypt read evidence without changing it. |
| Can I prove this is the file the vendor published? | Yes. Compare its SHA-256 with the value on the site, then check its Authenticode signature. |
| Will the result hold up when someone asks how it was made? | Each run writes a PDF verification record: what was checked, how, and the result, named by its own hash. |
| Can I test it myself before I rely on it? | Yes. DEVI Validate and DEVI Decrypt have a built-in self-test, and DEVI Registry ships a script that checks every record. |
| Who built it, and who owns it? | Working digital forensic examiners on the DEVI Ops Team, at a U.S.-owned company. |
For agencies
Ready for your agency's review
What an agency's IT, security and legal teams ask first, answered.
Designed to meet CJIS Security Policy requirements
DEVI is built against the FBI CJIS Security Policy, one requirement at a time. The Trust Center shows where it stands.
Data stays on the agency's computer
The desktop tools run offline on the agency's own computers. Evidence, and any CJI in it, stays there and is never sent to DEVI.
Approved accounts only
The DEVI Ops Team reviews every account and every tool request before anything can be downloaded.
License and DPA on request
The license agreement and a data processing agreement are available to any agency that asks, for its legal and IT review.
Stay current
Every release, in the open
Release notes list what changed in each tool, newest first, and each tool checks for its own signed updates when you allow it.
The release notes say what changed in the current release of each tool. The insights are forensics research and engineering notes, with their sources. The Trust Center covers security, privacy, CJIS status and how to check a download.
